My Halloween Costume Project for ESL/ELA

Use this creative and interdisciplinary Halloween project to engage and motivate your ESL/ELA learners. Through the selection of colors, design elements, and the character students wish to assume while dressed up for Halloween, this creative project will allow them to design and describe a Halloween costume that:

• represents them as individuals,
• expresses their identity,
• conveys their values, qualities, and interests,
• and transmits a message.

This project not only requires learners to draw and describe their costume, but they also need to critically analyze their choices of design and character that should transmit a message, represent them or their values as individuals.

Because of the nature of this project, it could be used as an interdisciplinary project between:

• ESL/ELA and Dramatic Arts classes
• ESL/ELA and Visual Arts classes
