This bundle contains two resources that complement each other wonderfully in order to dive deeper in the analysis of…

This resource contains 22 colourful posters with famous quotes from The Little Prince, a novel by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry – none of the images are the actual drawings of the author. The posters are followed by ‘sticky notes’ to be used together with the posters (optional) – see the preview to check out some of the posters and the ‘sticky notes’. I would suggest to laminate both the posters and the sticky notes so they remain in good condition for future use.

You may use this resource in a variety of ways (these are just some examples):

  1. You can simply use the posters to decorate your classroom – (I would suggest the posters in classrooms for older grades, as the meaning of the quotes can be more difficult to understand for younger children).

  1. Culminating task: After reading the novel – Gallery walk -

Dans le monde du Petit Prince (you can give a title for the gallery walk):

    • Place the posters all around in your classroom (even in the hallway (if you can) adjacent to your room.

    • Explain the task to your students:
      • Decide at the beginning if you want your students to walk alone or in small groups.
      • Show the samples on the sticky notes when explaining the task. You can leave these notes on your white board as a reference point for students to check if the task is completed correctly.
      • Students will need to reflect on the quotes as they walk and pause at each poster and write their thoughts on sticky notes (these can be actual sticky notes you hand out to your students).
      • You can decide at the beginning of the activity if you would like your students to write a reflection for each poster or just for some.

          • Here are some examples prepared for you on the ‘sticky notes’ you can show to your students as samples:
            • Cette image me fait penser…
            • Après avoir lu ce passage, je me souviens…
            • En regardant cette image, je peux faire un lien à…
            • En lisant ce passage, à mon avis, l’auteur veut dire que…
            • Après avoir lu cette citation, je me demande…
            • Etc.

There are also samples for possible answers!

        • After the students finish walking around and writing their thoughts on the ‘sticky notes’, the students will gather together either in small groups or as a class to share their thinking.

The gallery walk (after reading the book) would especially help students who would have had difficulty understanding meaning in the book.

  1. Before reading the book:

          • You can introduce the novel to your students by sharing some of the quotes on the posters and explaining how this book is much more than a tale of a little boy. You can start making the students think about ideas that are more profound, thus preparing them for the reading task.
          • You can also introduce a chapter by using a poster with a quote on it. For example, the poster with the house refers to chapter 4. Before reading chapter 4, you can have the students brainstorm during a class discussion what message the author wants to convey in the quote.

Scaffolding a reading task this way could/will help students who face challenges when reading more complex texts.

In this resource you will find the following:

  • 22 posters (only colour copies are available)
  • 12 yellow ‘sticky notes’ (one different prompt on each)
  • 12 ‘sticky notes’ (black and white) – (same prompts as on the yellow notes)
  • 12 yellow ‘sticky notes’ with examples on how to complete the notes
  • 12 black-and-white notes with examples on how to complete the notes
  • 6 extra blank yellow notes
  • 6 extra blank black-and-white notes
  • 12 editable yellow notes in a separate file (PowerPoint) in order for you to customize the sample notes
  • 12 editable black-and-white notes in a separate file (PowerPoint)

These activities will foster:

  • critical thinking
  • oral communication:
      • speaking and attentive listening
      • collaboration
      • curiosity
      • productivity (think-pair-share)
  • open-mindedness
  • reading comprehension strategies (e.g., questioning, inferencing, making connections, prior knowledge)

Information for printing:

This resource contains a zip-file:

  • File #1:
    • Posters (pages 8 to 29)
    • ‘Sticky notes’ (colour and B/W) – (pages 30-41)
  • File #2:

It is suggested that the students walk around the classroom with a clipboard where they can clip their notes (if you will be using the ‘sticky notes’ provided in this resource), or stick their notes on it if you provide them with actual sticky notes.
