Perfect for exploring the French-speaking world - La Francophonie and ideal for cross-curricular learning in French class, aligning French and geography, an instant introduction to the scope of the Francophone world, promoting French as a living language, spoken widely across the world, and featuring in the everyday life of the learning environment. Students can develop their language skills, as well as their knowledge of both the French-speaking and wider world, in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher.

The cards are suitable for a broad range of learning phases at any time during the school year, and particularly if you’re looking at where French is spoken as a first / home / official language across the world, or for the European Day of Languages every September.

The set works well as a whole-group, small-group / center or paired learning activity. Revisit regularly to maximise the learning potential. It’s useful to screen a world map before students engage with the activities for the first time, so that they can visualise the location of world continents, where the countries are located in relation to them, and to each other. This provides a really important context for their learning.

The set features 42 countries / territories where French is an official language, or where it is spoken by a large proportion of the population. Each country is given with the definite article. We've suggested a range of games and activities that work well in class. There are 10 cards per page, the country flag and corresponding card with the country name and capital city. The final page has 16 cards, with 12 featuring each continent and its corresponding name card. The continent, country and capital city labels are across 3 pages, and also features individual country labels. There is a 2-page reference list with all continent, countries, capital cities and national flags. To save prep costs, it’s fine to provide your students with an electronic / digital copy of the reference list. Laminate the cards and labels if possible, as they’re easier to manipulate and remain in excellent condition for years.
