Student Choice Project Workbook for Teens

If you wish to incorporate more student choice projects in your classroom, this document will help learners to keep focused and organized while holding them accountable for their work.

⭐Please note that this document has been designed for ESL learners. In order to complete a personal project, students need to be autonomous and possess good organizational skills. Thus, this resource is more appropriate for advanced ESL learners, Grades 10-11. However, it might be useful for ESL/ELA students below or above these grade levels.

⭐The downloaded file includes:

• A PDF document containing fillable form fields, so learners may complete the activities on their computer.
• A PDF document you may print (It doesn't contain fillable form fields.)
• A Teacher Copy of the document including some Teacher directions and Terms of Use.

⭐This resource contains:

• Brainstorming activity (project ideas)
• Preparation phase: description of the project, list of materials needed, purpose/aim of the project, selecting the format of the published work, choosing the time frame and the workspace where they will complete the assignment.
• Progress log
• Planning sheet
• Research phase: Some examples of source cards helping learners to properly cite/reference their outside sources; Cornell notes to take notes while researching a topic
• Space for students to sketch the layout of their blog, comic strip, brochure
• Sheets for a rough draft are not included because learners may use a computer or a loose leaf to complete this step.
• Feedback page: Before students edit and revise their work, they need to evaluate their work, ask for feedback from their peers and/or teacher.
• Checklist: Students will use this checklist to make sure they have completed all the steps in the Project Booklet and they have met all task requirements before they turn in their published work.

This project booklet has been designed for individual work; however, students may carry out the activities in pairs or small teams, as well.

Please note that this resource is not editable, but I have included a PDF document that allows learners to complete the fillable form fields on their computer.

The teaching duration will vary as the length of this assignment depends on the complexity of students' personal projects. This assignment may be completed at home, in class or both.
