Use this no-prep, fun, social game to help welcome students back at the start of the school year, after the winter break, march break, or spring break, or any time your class could use engaging conversation starters (in Google Slides and PowerPoint formats). This Would You Rather activity has vivid pictures that encourage conversation and can help build community. It is well suited for Grade 2, Grade 3, Grade 4, or Grade 5 and is great for ELL / ESL students (but I have had my past, quirky gifted intermediate class, enjoy a version of it too). Students can also make their own Would You Rather questions using the templates provided.
When done it will include:
- 41 engaging Would You Rather questions with vivid photos (in PowerPoint and Google Slides formats)
- 1 template that can be duplicated in slides and used online.
- 1 printable template for students to create their own.
- The Summer Edition includes two slides of "Fun Facts"
- *BONUS* Opinion Writing Package with templates appropriate for earlier writers (2nd to 3rd grade) and more proficient writers (3rd to 5th grade)
Tons of options on use!
- A simple game to play to get students talking.
- Build Classroom Community and Social Skills - use it to model flexible thinking and respectfully disagreeing.
- Speech Langauge Development and ELL/ ESL - The vivid photographs can spark further conversation and vocabulary-building opportunities. Elaborate on what they say to help them expand their vocabulary. Use it to assess oral communication skills.
- Writing Skills - create a classroom book (printable or electronic) of would you rather scenarios or have them write an opinion paragraph on their choices by having them turn their opinion into their topic sentence and elaborate on their reasons and details.
