The Stray Dog - Reading and writing
Hello teachers!
Thank you for your interest in my product. I love this book so much and I believe these activities are a great complement to the book.
In this booklet based on "The Stray Dog" by Marc Simont, you will find the following activities:
** All writing activities include 4 versions (full writing page with dotted lines, full writing page with regular lines, drawing space + writing with dotted lines, drawing space + writing with regular lines).
Before Reading Activities:
1. Stray animals: Students are asked to write what they know about stray animals.
2. Predicting the story: Students are asked to predict what the story will be about and what they think will happen.
After Reading Activities:
3. Story elements: Students are asked to fill out the chart about the characters, setting, problem and solution of the story (drawing option is included).
4. Story elements: Students are asked to read the examples of story elements (i.e. name of a character) and color by code.
5. Story sequencing: Students are asked to write what happens at the beginning, middle, and end of the story (drawing option is included)
6. Inferring: Students are asked to write about why they think Willy became a stray dog.
7. Making connections: Students are asked to write about what they would do if they saw a stray animal.
8. Favorite part: Students are asked to write about their favorite part of the story.
9. Reading comprehension questions: Students are asked to answer 6 comprehension questions related to the story.
10. Book review: Students are asked to rate the book and explain why they gave it X stars. They are also asked to write what they liked the most and liked the least about the book.
11. Bonus for early finishers: word search + colouring page.
