Tv Logs and Book Reports - Homework Int. Eng
These ''homework'' have been created for ESL Intensive English where I spend over 18 weeks with the same group in a single year. Homeroom teachers can still use it but you only have 18 cycles (period of 5 days) of each.
I'm the kind of teacher who doesn't believe in homework. No research have ever proven that students master more the notions seen at school by doing work at home. It adds to home stress and if students work hard at school, they, like us, need a break when they arrive home.
Having said that, I still want them to practice their English outside of school. Which is the reason that, on top of words and verbs to study, I also send Tv Logs and Book Reports to do during the week.
Tv Logs: Students must watch 1 hour of English per week (Tv show, Movie, Youtube video, whatever). Their parents have to sign to confirm their child has done their job.
Book Report: This ''homework'' can also be done at school during the countless times my students have to read in class but if they manage not to do it, they can read a book at home and do a little something to prove they have done so. They have to draw something (sometimes it's their favorite moment, sometimes it's a character in the story, etc.) and write ONE sentence to describe what they drew.
