This activity is perfect for small-group teaching, teamwork, or individual work. Have fun creating your caterpillar, then add the different words that belong to each category. You will end up with a beautiful, colorful caterpillar!
You can adapt the activity to the students’ level by adding or removing certain word categories that have not yet been mastered. The suggested categories are: adjectives, verbs, pronouns, common nouns, determiners, adverbs, conjunctions, and prepositions.
There are 56 different words to place into the correct categories. Cut out the colored circles to form your caterpillar… Don’t forget the little legs!
Recommendation: I suggest doing this on a large table, as the caterpillar can get quite big once assembled.
