Quick Grading Rubrics (ESL C2 & C3)

These time-saving grading rubrics provide a fast way of giving feedback on learners' written assignments. This resource contains three grading rubrics for writing (opinion text, general rubric for writing, rubric for assessing paragraph writing activities or short written assignments). I have also included a grading rubric for reinvestment of understanding of texts (in Canada, Competency 2).

Please note that these are not detailed evaluation grids. These rubrics help you to grade quickly, thus only the highest expectations are listed on these forms. The elements in students' text that that do not meet the highest score, will be evaluated with the help of the scores given in descending order (numbers or letter grades). This is a sample conversion chart you could use to interpret students’ performance when using these quick grading rubrics:

A (+ -): Exceeds expectations 90% - 100%

B (+ -): Meets expectations 75% - 85%

C (+ -): Minimally meets expectations 55% - 70%

D (+ -): Below expectations 40% - 50%

F (+ -): Does not meet expectations 20% - 35%
