Versatile Teacher Toolkit

This creative mini research workbook on the theme of music and its influence on teens' lives will certainly engage your artistic learners who love doodling. This resource contains a worksheet to be completed while doing research (doodle note taking sheet your learners can colour), a written production booklet for students' reinvestment task, and assessment grid.

2019 UPDATE: Clickable links provided to online article students may consult while carrying out their research.

UPDATE NOVEMBER 2019:

  • Alternative assessment booklet added, so you can differentiate the final reinvestment task (easier writing prompt and a little bit more support in carrying out the planning phase - a transition words list included for more support and a more detailed checklist for reviewing writing).
  • A separate document containing clickable links to the articles that students should consult online while carrying out the research project.

Available in a bundle: Music and Teens Bundle

This project has two components: online research and a written production.

⭐Use this resource as:

  • creative project assignment
  • assignment for extra credit
  • extension activity while teaching a unit on music.
  • emergency sub plan

⭐Assessment of written production:

  • The included rubric has been designed to assess two of the ESL competencies (Québec ESL program): C2 - Reinvests understanding and C3 - Writes and produces texts. However, you might just as well use the part which evaluates only writing skills (content and formulation of the message) if you do not wish to assess reinvestment of understanding.

Assessment of students' research notes:

  • There is an assessment rubric for assessing only reinvestment of understanding of texts, which should be used to evaluate students' research notes. This grid is not ideal for evaluating writing skills.

However, feel free to use your own evaluation rubrics to assess students' work.
