Movie Guide for Any Movie (ESL/ELA/Special Ed)

Use movies as texts: This movie guide may be used with almost any movie out there, however, the “connect to the text” questions focus on overcoming challenges and personal growth, so this resource might be more suitable for movies that have somehow an important message, so students are able to learn from it.

This viewing guide has been designed for ESL learners, but it may be useful for ELA and Special Ed students, as well. This resource is more appropriate for upper-intermediate and advanced learners. Depending on your students' proficiency-level, you might need to offer them more support and guidance.

You may use this resource:

• as an end of the year activity
• as an emergency sub plan
• as an extension activity
• as a listening activity to develop listening skills

This resource focuses on the response process and includes the following elements:

• Making predictions
• Plot structure (plot diagram) - graphic organizer
• Conflict situations (inner and external conflicts)
• Characters (protagonist and antagonist)
• Focus on character education (overcoming challenges, life lessons students may be able to apply to their personal life).
• Drawing conclusions

I have included an extra sheet for the writing activity which allows you to type a specific writing prompt you wish learners to elaborate on after watching. This is the only part of the resource you may edit.
