Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Study Guide
This study guide contains reading journals (finding specific information), focus on language/grammar activities, writing prompts helping learners to connect with and react to the text, analysis worksheets, and novel study task cards that you may use for small group discussions or writing prompts. The activities are ideal for differentiated instruction (See graphic organizers, easier and more complex activities, grammar review if needed, creative projects that might replace the final reinvestment task, etc.)

- Study guide + answer key to be used with the adapted version of the novella (Penguin Readers Level 3)
⭐What is included?
- Teacher directions - Read it first to learn more about how to use this resource
- Most questions require learners to record keywords and short phrases, so they can focus more on reading and enjoying the novel.
- Some of these note-taking activities can be completed in small teams, so learners also interact and use English while completing the tasks. You may choose which activities you want your learners to carry out individually or in teams.
- Other activities included: introduction to Gothic features and anticipation guide, finding specific information, putting events in order, wanted poster, creating Mr. Hyde's portrait, comparing/contrasting Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, creating a timeline of events, writing a police report, associating the characters' name with their description, completing the plot diagram
- Connect with the text-type questions to help learners engage with the text more meaningfully.
- Graphic organizers
- Reflective writing prompts to encourage learners to express their point of view, establish personal connections with the text, think critically, and draw conclusions
- Grammar in context to review or teach: the Simple Past Tense, Adjectives and expressing possession, conditional sentences, modal auxiliary verbs, degrees of comparison
- Final assessment with grading rubric included to evaluate reinvestment of understanding of texts and writing (+ EDITABLE INSTRUCTIONS)

This study guide has been designed for upper-elementary and advanced ESL learners (Grades 9-11); however, it might also be suitable for ELA and Special Education classes below and above these grade levels. Please check out the preview document to determine if this resource is appropriate for your learners.
The document can be used in a whole semester; however, the time frame can be shorter or longer depending on how much your students read each class.
