This document contains ten situations encouraging learners to brainstorm/reflect on sleep deprivation, loneliness, dealing with problems, controlling intense emotions, body image, empathy/being helpful, the way social media/technology has changed the way they interact and communicate. Ideal for back to school or all year round.
Use this differentiated Picture Walk activity to build inference skills and develop speaking and writing skills (response to text). This resource contains images showing different situations, and learners need to offer as many details as possible using the visual cues and guiding questions. Teaching tips/directions are included in the downloaded file. If you are not familiar with Picture Walk, read my blog post on the Picture Walk reading strategy here.

⭐This resource is ideal to:
- develop oral interaction/speaking and writing skills
- practice forming and answering yes/no and information questions.
- help learner make inference.
- to practice grammar in context.
⭐Best uses:
- Centers/workshops/discussion groups
- Individual, pair or group work.
- Providing practice in making inferences.
⭐The four types of differentiated activities cover:
Level 1 Activity : These cards contain images and guiding questions to help learners make inferences and develop their speaking skills.
Level 2 Activity allows learners to answer the questions at their own pace. Some students might not be able to talk a lot during oral interaction because they need more time to think about their answers. So, they have a chance to make inferences based on the visual cues by answering the guiding questions in writing.
Level 3 Activity is more difficult as students have to form their own questions. This activity is ideal to practice the formation of information questions. In addition, the guiding questions from the previous tasks (Levels 1 and 2) might serve as models for learners to write their own interrogative sentences.
Level 4 Activity require learners to write the story of the image.
